100 Webmaster Questions
Saw some people on nekoweb do this. Still have to find out, what I really want to do with this website…
(Template taken from MOUSELING)
1. Please introduce yourself.
On the internet my nickname is CodeDemon or SilverscaleClockwork. Blood type is O-. My past was filled a lot of experiences both good and bad.
I have an apprenticeship as fullstack developer, that will end this year (2026). My fear is that I don’t get a job after my apprenticeship.
Currently in therapie to get some medications, because body dysphoria is body horror.
2. How long have you been making websites?
A few decades. I started learning software development at young age. Of course that included Websites.
3. And what got you into the hobby?
My brother inspired my dream into becoming a software developer. Driven by the desire to become a software developer, I honed my skills day by day. There were some breaks.
4. What kind of website are you most interested in?
I like the complex parts of the web. No minimal sleek google design. No ugly 1980 pepsi design. If I can learn something out of a website, I will be interested in it.
5. What’s your workflow? Do you plan your websites out thoroughly or do you come up with the design as you go along?
I take an iterative appraoch, especially building personal websites. I start at first with a simple foundation using basic HTML, CSS and JS. Then I add things like static site builder to keep it easier to update.
6. Please link to your biggest inspirations.
I don’t really have a biggest inspiration. If you want to know the last website I saw before writing this entry it would be YouTube and MOUSELING.
7. What’s your favourite part about making websites?
I like seeing lines of text influencing design, logic and animations. The feeling of writing worlds, sheets and blogs just with some lines.
8. And the thing you struggle with the most?
Art, Texts, maybe english. Not the creative type and also not a native.
9. Do you keep the same layout on all of your pages? Or do you use different ones?
I just go with the flow. Personally, I dislike the corporate approach of using the same boilerplate for every bowl of cornflakes.
10. How confident are you with CSS?
I would say a 7 out of 10. I am pretty comfortable with CSS, but I’m not a ‘CSS ninja’ or magician just yet. This page is still a work in progress that I am actively refining.
11. Do you know how to correctly use <dl>?
Yes, I know it is a description list. However, since I write my blog in Markdown (which doesn’t natively support it), I rarely use it. Honestly, I often forget it’s even an option, so I would probably skip it anyway.
12. What is your favourite HTML element?
A <span> is a tag that can be used anywhere because it applies no styling on its own and is inline by default. Another great utility is <ul>. It is often invisible (for example, in navigation headers) but is essential for accessibility tools. However, my absolute favorite is <canvas>.
13. If you’re making a new web page from scratch, what is the first thing you do?
The first thing I do is run git init.

I have worked with PHP for years. I hate it, but yes.

I have a base layout, it keeps my design consistent.
17. Are you more focused on content or design?
I am more focused on the technical side, which also includes design.
18. Do you own a domain name? If not, would you ever want to?
Currently I save myself the money, even if it doesn’t cost a lot.
19. What do you think of nostalgia-focused or “retro” websites?
It’s certainly design choice that matters. Not really my favourite, but can be done in a pleasing way.
20. Is your HTML valid? Do you even check?
Valid in what sense? I don’t strictly follow XHTML-compliant standards. However, my HTML is solid enough for accessibility tools, and it is optimized to achieve a 95+ score on PageSpeed.
21. What are your opinion on buttons and banners?
Buttons and banners seem fun, so maybe I’ll make my own banner once I have the time.

23. If you started over again, would you make something similar or completely different?
I would make it a new thing.

VS Code, Vim, sometimes Emacs on Evil-Mode
26. Why do you use that one?

The design changes a tiny bit every day. The layout gets around 5 updates per day.
38. Is your website more you-focused, hobby-focused, or outside world-focused?
It’s just a page I throw some stuff in. Means it’s probably more hobby focused or me focused.
39. Do you do web design professionally?
Yesn’t, I am a full stack developer, means I know how to write a page from scratch quickly but normally I have to copy a design from a designer. Therefore I have the professional knowledge in HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP. My knowledge in C++ is tho more of a hobby.

Not using static site generators like astro and 11ty. Especially when writing blogs on static hosts.

Corporate sites often feel soulless, while the IndieWeb can sometimes get cluttered and distracting.
My advice? We should all just give it a KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid).

I use semantics on important parts. Of course I use a few divs and spans through my page.
53. Do you consider different browsers?
Not switching to the chromium based things.
54. Speaking of, what’s your preferred browser? Convince your readers why they should use it.

Garuda Linux
56. Do you have a strong opinion on that, or do you just happen to use it?
I use Arch BTW. Used Arch before Garuda, Garuda was just faster to install.

Not really. Modern approaches are Mobile first, but I didn’t actually do it that way. Might have to do a bit of a rework in my css files.

Autoplay to next title is good. Autoplay on page-open is abusive.

Maybe. But clichés exist for a reason—usually because they work.

All my styling is in CSS files.
footer.css
header.css
navigation.css
statistics.css
style.css # global styling
68. What do you think of frameset layouts?
Deprecated for a reason. It is much better to create proper layouts (using templates or CSS Grid), which gives you the flexibility to change the design on specific pages. However, for me, it is important to always keep a consistent navbar to prevent the reader from getting lost.
69. How about table-based layouts?
Please don’t use tables… use modern tools like Flexbox and Grid instead.
70. Do you subscribe to the ideas of “one-column”, “two-column” and “three-column” layouts? Do you use any of these?
My layout is currently one-column for simplicity, though I might swap to a two-column or three-column layout at some point. However, I believe that multi-column layouts need a reason to exist. You shouldn’t occupy more screen space unless the content actually requires it.
71. Do you spend longer on the HTML or the CSS?
I’ll do you one better: I spend more time on JS. That said, my HTML can be a bit verbose sometimes. I often add specific structural elements just to make the CSS and JS easier to manage.

I’ve used Sakura, so… not entirely.

I consider myself advanced.
75. Do you have a habit of looking at the source code of websites you visit?
Rarely. If I find something that I cannot explain.

I started with Google Sites, if I recall correctly. From there, I moved on to YouTube tutorials, and at some point, it just ‘clicked’—being a developer became second nature.
77. Do you ever force elements to do things they’re not supposed to?
It’s natural habit of a webdev. A ul is naturally flowing from top to bottom, but nothing speaks against making it flow from left to right.
78. Thoughts on floating elements?
You can use them in texts. Snapping an image to the right or center is pretty good. It’s tho not meant for layouts.
79. When you’re sizing stuff, what do you use first? Do you use px, em, %, or something else?
I usually use rem.
80. Do you have a favourite font?

84. What do you want people to be most impressed with when they see your website?
Wallpaper
85. Are you interested in technology outside of websites? Do you collect?
Of course. I have some DVDs and some CDs. And since I have also experience with other programming languages than JS, I also like to write some desktop apps and mods/plugins.
86. How often and for how long are you online?
I’m a walking machine. Online 24/7 till the batteries run out.

You tell me.
88. Have you ever been interested in XHTML?
No, I am no masochist.

Not really active on forums.

I am a bit more secretive.
98. Are you willing to reveal who your best online friend is, and/or if they have a website?
No
99. And do you optimise the images on your website?
Yes, but that part I automated.
100. We’re out of time! How do you feel after answering 100 questions? …other than exhausted.
At least something accomplished on this saturday.
